About Andy Shay

As the former proprietor of Shay Gourmet, a full service gourmet food store and Shay Cheese, Canada’s first online cheese retailing business, Andy Shay is no stranger to Canadian cheese and the Toronto food scene.

Andy has a Bachelor of Science Degree from Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration (Ithaca, New York). Andy started his career in hotel administration and has worked for the Four Seasons and several other luxury hotels in Austin, Texas, Manhattan, and even Japan! While in Manhattan, Andy launched his gourmet retail career with the Gourmet Garage and Eli Zabar and continued at David Jones Food Hall in Sydney, Australia, before coming to Canada.   

He has worked as a cheese consultant and educator, cheese writer, led cheese-appreciation classes, has been a spokesperson for the Dairy Farmers of Canada, is a past board member of the Ontario Cheese Society. Currently, Andy is the Category Manager for Cheese with Sobeys Ontario.
